If you’re building a business, this might be the one thing that changes everything for you. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned on my entrepreneurial journey is this: you don’t have to do it alone. In fact, trying to do it all yourself may be holding your business back.
Today, I want to share how crucial it is to have a mentor, an accountability partner, and a coach when you’re growing your business. These support systems not only help you grow faster, but they help you grow smarter—with fewer costly mistakes.
Mentorship: Learn From Someone Who’s Been There
A mentor can help you avoid mistakes you don’t even know to look out for. Their real-world experience saves you time, money, and stress.
For my company, Occasions Inc.—now the Alexis Windham Group—joining a mentor-protégée program was a game-changer. Our mentor helped us build our infrastructure, backed us financially, and even brought us into projects. That kind of guidance was foundational to our long-term growth.
Accountability: Stay Consistent and Committed
As entrepreneurs, we don’t have bosses keeping us in check. That’s why accountability is key.
I’m fortunate to have a business partner, and together we follow the 12 Week Year method. We meet weekly, go over our goals, and grade ourselves on progress. It’s the only way we ensure we’re moving forward with consistency and purpose.

Coaching: Strategy, Structure, and Support
When I started my business, I was a great event planner — but I didn’t know how to lead a business, build a team, or create a sales process. That’s where a coach would’ve made all the difference.
A business coach helps you see the bigger picture and create systems that actually work. If I had one from the start, I could’ve avoided so many difficult challenges.
Community: The Inspiration Behind The Thomas Manor
Joining mastermind groups introduced me to other entrepreneurs who became my support system. Their insight, encouragement, and shared experiences made a major impact.
That’s what inspired me to create The Thomas Manor — a space where entrepreneurs could get the mentorship, coaching, and accountability I wish I had in my early days.
